  • A decade plusIn Australian vocational education
  • Three RTOsRun, not just advised on
  • Since 2016Consulting alongside those roles, both in VET and beyond

I’ve worked in vocational education for more than a decade: in sales, in marketing, in operations and in management. I’ve run three registered training organisations, and I’ve consulted independently alongside those roles since 2016, both in VET and beyond.

That matters for a specific reason. Most people offering compliance advice have come to it from the outside, as auditors or consultants. I came to it as the person who was accountable: the one who had to have the answers when a regulator asked, and who wore it when the systems weren’t good enough.

I know what it’s like to run a training business where compliance sits alongside payroll, staffing, enrolments and cashflow, all competing for the same week, and where the honest answer to “are we audit-ready” is “probably, mostly, I think so, maybe not”.

I now work with RTOs on that problem directly.

Why I publish

The 2025 Standards for RTOs changed how providers have to evidence what they do, and a lot of the practical detail is still being worked out across the sector. I write a fortnightly email working through it in the open, partly because it’s useful to providers, and partly because writing it forces me to know the material properly.
